Let It Burn: Conquering Evil with Christlike, Counter-Cultural Kindness
What Is Our True Purpose?
The Westminster Catechism asks, “What is the chief end of man?” The answer? To glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This is our purpose—not just in how we worship, but in how we live our daily lives, especially when we are wronged.
The Venom of Vengeance
The world teaches us to get even when wronged. But vengeance is venomous—it poisons us from the inside out. Romans 12:19 reminds us, “Do not avenge yourselves… Vengeance belongs to the Lord.” Our job is to let go of revenge and trust God to bring justice.
Crazy Love
Jesus calls us to love our enemies and bless those who mistreat us. This isn’t just radical—it’s counter-cultural. Jesus lived out this crazy love for us while we were still His enemies (Romans 5:8). When we show this love, we mirror Christ to the world.
Kindness: The True Conflict Killer
The Bible tells us, “Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.” Romans 12:21 Instead of responding to hatred with more hate, Jesus calls us to respond with kindness and grace. This is how we disarm conflict and make space for God to move.
The Reward of Righteousness
When we show mercy and kindness, we reflect the mercy God has shown us. This way of living brings true freedom to our souls and pleases God.
Challenge for Today:
Think of someone who has wronged you. Instead of retaliation, what would it look like for you to respond with kindness? Let go of vengeance and let God work in you and through you.
