Don't Be Lame: Embracing Wholeness - Finding Healing and Redemption with Jesus | Westside Church NJ

Hey, Westside Church family! I hope you all have been enjoying our Sharable Parables series. However, today, we're taking a little detour. Skrrr! Just for this week, we're diving into the Book of John, chapter 5. So, grab your Bibles and turn to John 5 as we explore this amazing story together.

  1. Answering the Lord's Questions

When Jesus asks us, "Do you want to be healed?" we must be prepared to answer wholeheartedly, "Yes, Lord!" We might sometimes respond with excuses, doubts, or self-pity, but Jesus wants us to trust in His plan. Even in the midst of challenges, we should remember that His grace is sufficient for us, and His power is made perfect in our weaknesses. When we surrender to Him completely, He can turn our lives around and bring true healing.

2. Rest in GOD’s Power… Not Your Predicament:

The man by the pool of Bethesda had been in his situation for 38 long years. Sometimes, like him, we focus too much on our predicaments and forget to trust in God's power. We need to shift our perspective from our problems to the Problem Solver. Our God is greater than any challenge we face, and nothing is too difficult for Him. As we rest in His power, we can experience peace and hope even in the midst of adversity.

3. Share With Others What Jesus Can Do:

When the lame man was healed, he couldn't help but share the news with others. He became a witness to the miraculous power of Jesus. In the same way, when Jesus transforms our lives, we should be eager to share our testimonies with those around us. Our stories have the potential to touch people's hearts and inspire faith in Jesus. The world desperately needs to hear about the life-changing love of Christ.

Once Jesus healed the man who had been lame, the man became a powerful witness to the miraculous power of Jesus. He couldn't contain the excitement of his transformation. The Scripture doesn't explicitly mention this, but can you imagine how he must have shared his testimony with family, friends, and everyone else around?

When God works in our lives, it's not just for our benefit. He intends for us to be channels of His love and grace to others. Our stories have the potential to impact the lives of those who hear them. People around us might be going through similar struggles, seeking hope and healing just like we once did.

Sharing what Jesus has done for us can take various forms. It could be through a simple conversation with a friend, a testimony shared in a small group, or even through social media platforms. The medium doesn't matter as much as the message – the message of God's redemptive power and His willingness to transform lives.

In Mark 5:19-20, after Jesus delivered a man from demon possession, he told him, "Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." And the man did just that, proclaiming throughout the Decapolis what Jesus had done for him. We have a similar call – to share the goodness and mercy of our Lord.

We live in a world that desperately needs the hope and love of Christ. As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of His Kingdom, and one of the most effective ways to do that is by sharing our testimonies. People may doubt theological arguments, but they cannot deny the real-life stories of transformed hearts and changed lives.

So, let's be bold in sharing our testimonies, not with arrogance but with humility and gratitude. Let's share the truth of what Jesus can do – heal the brokenhearted, bring freedom to the captives, and transform lives from the inside out.

Conclusion:

Today, we've delved into the encounter between Jesus and the man by the pool of Bethesda. We learned valuable lessons from the man's responses and Jesus' compassion. Jesus asks us the same question, "Do you want to be healed?" May our response always be a resounding "Yes, Lord!"

Let's remember to shift our focus from our predicaments to the power of our God. He is greater than any challenge we face, and when we trust in Him, we can find rest and hope.

Furthermore, as beneficiaries of God's transformative work, let's take on the role of witnesses. Let's share with others what Jesus can do – the love He bestows, the healing He brings, and the hope He offers.

May our lives continually reflect the grace and power of our Lord Jesus Christ. And may we never cease to declare His goodness to a world in need of His salvation. Amen!
